Rumors of Layoffs at Mishawaka Hummer H2 Plant

Mishawaka Hummer Plant
“The Plant has to determine what the staffing will be, but typically the down time would result in layoffs,” says Tom Wickham, the Manager of Manufacturing Communication for GM. He’s talking about the ‘down-weeks’ that will take place in a couple weeks that will, “bring the production of the H2 in line with the demand in the market.” GM has sold over 12,500 H2s to dealers this year, a nuber that was higher just a year ago. However, it is noted that these are just rumors at this time – many plants, including the H3 which has a very high demand right now, have down-time every year when very few if any vehicles are produced. In the picture above, the white building is the newer H2 plant, and the brown building directly behind is the Humvee manufacturing facility — you can even see part of a test track in the corner.
