Hummer Guy

The FBI has joined the investigation to find those responsible for vandalizing 15 HUMMERs over the weekend at a Portland, Oregon dealership.

Given the circumstances , it is expected that this was done by an eco-terrorist, who thinks dispersing powerful acid in public areas isn’t nearly as offensive as driving a HUMMER. Smart, eh?

The most likely group, the Earth Liberation Front (ELF) is not claiming responsibility for the act, and said this on their press website:

Acid was poured over fifteen Hummers at Vic Alfonso Cadillac in Portland, OR, USA. As of yet there has been no claim of responsibility. However, it is evident from the sabotage that this act was conducted in response to the environmental devastation caused by SUVs and Hummers in particular.

I guess they haven’t read up on the facts regarding fuel economy (see #1, it’s for the Chinese, but ELF members can benefit too!).

The ELF may be a familiar name to the HUMMER community – they were the organization that claimed responsibility for setting 8 HUMMERs ablaze at a dealership in 2003. ELF member William Cottrell was convicted of conspiracy to commit arson after the attacks and sentenced to eight years and ordered to pay $3.5 million in restitution.

Hopefully the FBI will bring in more resources and increase the likelihood that someone will pay for these crimes.
