Dear Senator: Save HUMMER, Save 3000 Jobs

In a time of deep economic recession it would only be responsible for our elected officials to do everything in their power to preserve American jobs. Combined, the U.S. Treasury and the U.A.W. own 77.5% of General Motors (60% and 17.5%, respectively), who’s corporate leadership failed to complete a deal with the Chinese under bizarre circumstances (they claim they never even saw an application) and yesterday sources familiar with the matter told us that a viable bidder was turned down in favor of shuttering the brand completely. So today, we’re asking you to write your elected officials and demand a review the possibility of selling HUMMER, which would in turn save an estimated 3,000 American jobs.

The few people within GM who have been fighting to save HUMMER have been reassigned to other positions, and others, like CEO Jim Taylor have ‘retired’ – which means when HUMMER was out, so were they. Jim Taylor was undoubtedly pulling for a successful completion of the HUMMER deal, but must have been overruled by those in higher power.

Maybe GM didn’t want another company to make HUMMER successful and show them and the world how to run a brand properly. Maybe GM didn’t want another competitor in the marketplace. There are a lot of maybes, but the cloud of secrecy around the discussions and decision to close HUMMER for good are unacceptable for a company that has the American taxpayers to thank for staying in business.

I’m not personally a fan of the bailouts, but we’re passed that, and I’m not asking for a bailout of HUMMER – just a fair shake and transparent negotiations. People inside GM are saying the decision doesn’t make sense but aren’t in a position to make a difference at this point.

That’s where you come in. Contact your elected officials and U.A.W. leaders now. It can be your Senator, your House representative, or even President Obama (keep it respectful…), or even better all three – and urge them to find out what happened and stress the importance of saving HUMMER.

Here is an example letter, feel free to use it:

Dear Elected Official,

I was very disappointed to hear that General Motors plans to shut down the HUMMER brand despite having viable offers from American companies that would help preserve 3,000 American Jobs.

I urge you to contact the U.S. Treasury and demand an independent investigation into the possibility of keeping the HUMMER brand alive by selling the company to an outside entity within the United States.

3,000 jobs are at stake this week, many have already been lost in the last few days. Please take action immediately so even more aren’t lost for good.

Sincerely,
Brian

Don’t wait, act now! If only the 20 or so people who make comments on the posts write, we won’t get anywhere. If the 2000 people that read the homepage daily act, we will!

  1. Dear (Name withheld),

I was very disappointed to hear that General Motors plans to shut down the HUMMER brand despite having viable offers from American companies that would help preserve at least 3,000 American Jobs.

I urge you to contact the U.S. Treasury and demand an independent investigation into the possibility of keeping the HUMMER brand alive by selling the brand to a company within the United States. We need the manufacturing jobs and vehicle innovation that a new company can bring to the iconic HUMMER brand here in the USA more than ever.

Raser Technologies is one such American company that was in the bidding process for HUMMER and has suggested taking the brand “green”. They have some impressive electric HUMMER prototypes that represent a bright future for American automotive technology and performance with increased efficiency. http://www.rasertech.com/

3,000 jobs are at stake this week with the shutdown of the brand, and many have already been lost in the last few days. Please take action immediately to keep this American brand alive and provide the opportunity to save these jobs held by hardworking and proud Americans.

    Sincerely,
    (name withheld)

  2. I have emailed the president, the colorado senator, and our rep. I strongly suggest that all other HUMMER fans contact the president and your state governments as well.

  7. SAVE HUMMER!!! WE WANT MORE DAKARS WITH ROBBY THE BEAST GORDON!!!!

  8. Done! I hope this works.

  9. This is such a shame. They got offer from USA company capable to make HUMMER green and they are rejecting them. Do they have any consciousness? Where is their moral? They are taking a bread from 3000 people making them unemplyed. GM management cannot make that kind of decisions. They are not owners of the company. The people – regular folks who payed for their existence have something to say. They are giving themselves the power they do not have and they do not deserve.

  10. I emailed both my senators I truly hope we do not fall on def ears.

  11. We need the support of Arnold Schwarzenegger, he is fan of electric cars and was one of the first vips who bought a hummer.
Now both is possible, to drive hummer and to be a “green man”.

We need his support, has anybody contact to him ?

    Greetings from Germany

    Armin

  12. E-mailed my congressman, senators, and the president. Ha ha… asked them to call me, but we will see.

  13. Emailed all three.

  14. It is extremely unlikely raser made a viable offer. It is not as if GM turned away a legitimate bid

  15. @doubtfuldan Normally, I would agree, but people within the organization who have first hand knowledge of the deal are saying that isn’t the case.

  16. Sent an e-mail to all 3.

  17. even though i predicted this was going to happen. i sent emails today.

  18. SENT THE EMAILS AS REQUESTED

  26. @TGKHUMMER

  27. @admin

  28. you know who we need to represent us??? THE GOVERNATOR ARNOLD SHWARZENEGGAR!!!! doesnt he own like a boat load of h1’s?

  29. Stick a fork in us folks, were done!!Hopefully well see our trucks on the Mecun auto auction going for twice the price we paid for them.

  31. What can we do from oversea? We don’t have the possibility to contact a senator or local representative…
Are there any lists where you can record name, address, country and so on?
I think contactacting Schwarzenegger could be a good idea since he was the initiator of the civil version von Humvee.
    Greetings from Switzerland

  32. I emailed both of my reps expressing my concern that GM has turned down offers for the Hummer brand. Not sure why GM wants to unload or let the brand die as It appears to be in demand world wide. I think the liberals in Washington want it to die since the government owns most of GM.
